Ninstints / SGang Gwaay
The best preserved of the ancient villages on Haida Gwaii, Ninstints/Saan Gwaii was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. It embodies the rugged Pacific beauty and rich ecology of the coast and the 10,000 year Haida connection with the land and sea.
Your flight will land at the former whaling station at Rose harbour, where our experienced boat operator will provide warm cruiser suits for the 20 minute ride to the village site on Anthony Island. There, a Haida Watchman will meet you and guide you through the remains. You will see original totem poles, many of them toppled or tilted, and the remains of longhouses. The site evokes strong feelings of the past. This tour includes to flight to and from Rose Harbour and the boat ride to the site.
